It’s fall. I should be working on one of the client websites I’ve got underway. I should be writing the promotional stuff for my first novel, which is scheduled for release in TWO WEEKS!
Instead, I’m thinking about fall, and writing poetry. So you get to read that today, instead of the newsletter or blog post about my book.
The Wind Blows
The wind blows.
The wind blows, and the trees
Dance, like stately women
Released from the restrictions of society
To frolic like young girls.
They cast off their leaves,
Their summer garments.
Soon they will stand bare-boned
And stiff with winter’s cold.
Today the wind blows, and the trees dance.
The wind blows.
The wind blows, and the leaves
Skitter across the road;
Gold coins tossed by those dancing trees,
Heaped against obstacles like fences and curbs.
They crunch under my feet
And catch in my hair:
Temporary passengers,
Here and gone again.
Today the wind blows, and the leaves dance.
The wind blows.
The wind blows, and the clouds
Race across the blue sky,
Joining hands, then letting go
To continue their journey.
They play hide and seek with the sun.
Their shadows run across the sidewalk,
Bright, dark, bright, dark:
Harbingers of the winter to come.
Today the wind blows, and the clouds dance.
The wind blows.
The wind blows, and I breathe
The last scents of summer.
The first hints of autumn
Brush against my skin.
I move:
Past the trees,
Through the leaves,
Under the clouds.
Today the wind blows, and I dance.
